Greetings everyone, Here we are almost half way through another year. Welcome to everyone and in particular our new members. As we are all aware the weather has played havoc with the golfing activities of many of our members in the first few months of this year, both in S.E. and North Queensland. Despite the difficulties experienced in this period we look forward to the golfing gods smiling upon us for the rest of the year. We still have four events to participate in this year namely Woodford on the 5th June (we welcome Woodford back into our fold and look forward to playing this course on a regular basis), Caboolture on the 7th August (we play this course each year and each year I eagerly look forward to the game), Virginia on the 25th September (wonderful course, wonderful warm hospitality – never fails) and last but not least our Christmas celebrations and breakup on 27th November at Gailes (still one of my favourite courses in all of Brisbane). I need to point out that in 2009 your committee conducted only four (4) events, in 2010 we increased these events to five (5) and by special member request at the 2010 AGM we increased the number of games this year to six (6). Whether it be because of the weather or just members spreading their participation over a greater number of games, we and the participating golf clubs are being let down. For example, at Virginia (despite the weather being fine) we had 56 members nominate but only 44 attend, at Gailes (initially wet but for those that stayed around we experienced a fine day and an excellent day of golf) we struggled to get 36 players! Our problem is that Golf Clubs will not give us the spaces and the tee off times we want if we let them down with numbers so please try to attend as many days as possible. If we can’t improve numbers the committee will have no option but to cut the numbers of events back next year and no one wants that to happen. Once upon a time we averaged 85 players a game so please let’s get back to the way we were. Charlie Earp our Patron is always there to entertain us and pass on his knowledge and pearls of wisdom so let’s be there to hear what the great man has to say. Our playing fees are only $25 and include a meal voucher. Its great value and you’ll have a great time. I guarantee it. |
