Firstly welcome to all members who have rejoined the Hole-In-One Club and welcome to new members. We hope you all have an enjoyable year and best wishes for 2012.

Our committee was elected at our A.G.M.  Held at Virginia and the following were elected.

PATRON CHARLIE EARP

PRESIDENT;   Steve Vardy;    SECRETARY;  Des Hughson;   TREASURER; Ross McCloud, Kevin Kellar,  Christine Courtney and Malcolm Smith.  Christine and Malcolm are new committee members and we trust they shall have a happy and lengthy stay on our committee.

Plans for next year include games at Gailes, Virginia, Woodford, Sandgate, Caboolture and Oxley.  The format will be similar to this year with single stable ford games at Gailes, Virginia, Woodford and Oxley… 4BBB stable ford at Gailes and  Caboolture.

We have booked Sandgate for Sunday the 28th .October.  Our inaugural game of the Hole-In-One Club was held at Sandgate on the 27th October, 1940.  . We feel this should be an annual event with the game being held as close to this date as possible..  We will be having an 11A.M.  Shotgun start. At the conclusion of the game we will have a sausage sizzle.   The club will supply rolls, sausages etc. for the playing members. The game will be a 4 man Ambrose with a minimum of 48 players and a maximum of 64 players. Sand gate is a 9 hole course with two sets of Tee markers, so that all holes vary in length.

All players’ names will go into a draw to form teams of four  a week prior to the game and then we shall advise players which group they are in and which hole is their tee off hole.

To organize this event we need nominations as early as possible and we shall accept nominations at any time.  We believe this will be a popular event and slots will be filled quickly so please nominate early.

CABOOLTURE:   A decision was made that at our 4BBB Caboolture event we will have a visitor day. Any member who wishes to invite a visitor may do so.  The only qualification being the visitor has had to have a hole in one at a registered Q.G.U. or A.G.U course in a registered event. This may increase our membership and help increase our fields.

Our schedule for 2012 has not been finalised due to Golf Clubs arranging their calendars for the year, however we have made tentative bookings which are:

VIRGINIA: 19th February 2012.

CABOOLTURE: April.

WOODFORD: June.

OXLEY: 19th August 2012 (this is a firm date)

SANDGATE:   October 27th, 2012 (this is a firm date).

GAILES: 2nd December 2012

Most clubs finalise their calendars early December.  I shall then distribute our schedule for 2012. Our website will have the 2012 schedule and emails will be sent to members with computers… Letters will be mailed to those members without   computers.  If we miss any members I offer my apologies, however please contact me if you do not receive a golf schedule.

Just a reminder regarding golf carts for all the events. Please book these direct from the club concerned. Re Sandgate this may be difficult due to the format. I suggest you contact me re carts and I will organize.

Due to the retirement of Judy and Reg and John all life members and long time committee members the changing of the guard can be  a difficult time ,  however with your co-operation the transition  hopefully will not affect  our members. Our records need to be accurate so all member details especially Email addresses and Phone Numbers need to be correct. We have instigated a membership renewal form which does request these details.

To facilitate the smooth  running of the club we also require your Home club and Golf Link numbers. These details will assist on game days . In the near future we will request these details from you.

Due to Golf Clubs limiting their food choices we have decided that the $5.00 food voucher should lapse and members can decide where they wish to spend their money. Food generally is available at Courses where we play.

Your committee wishes to pass on their best wishes to Marilyn Boulton.  Marilyn, one of our life members is not in the best of health and unfortunately cannot play at Gailes. We wish you well for the future Marilyn and pass on our best wishes to all members who are not 100%.

Finally we would like to thank Jason Adams from The Golf Factory Outlet, at Virginia for his sponsorship during 2011.

Merry Christmas to all and good golfing in 2012.

Des Hughson (Secretary)

President’s Report 2011

Dear Members,

I would like to start off by thanking your hard working committee. I can personally vouch for the fact that all members of Committee have again put in a tremendous effort to ensure that everyone enjoys a relaxing and rewarding day of golf. We are always in need of assistance from new Committee so we would be delighted to see you come on board. Judy Atkinson has decided after 15 plus years on the committee that she will not be re-nominating this year and will be sadly missed. Judy will pass on the membership responsibilities to Secretary Des Hughson (3829-0483). Any future HIO applications should be sent to PO Box 7499 REDLAND BAY 4165.

Our Townsville branch continues to grow and any member visiting this area my wish to see if their visit coincides with a Townsville event. I know you will be made to feel most welcome.

Thank you to those Clubs who support us. This year Virginia GC, Gailes GC and Caboolture GC again came to the fore while we reunited with Woodford GC where we have not played for several years. We have had a great time at all clubs and are planning to play at the same venues next year. A full list of dates will be provided as soon as they are finalised.

Game fees of $25 including a $5 meal voucher will remain unchanged in 2012 as will the yearly membership fee of $20. These accounts will be sent out in the next couple of weeks.

We were again privileged to have Charlie Earp as our Patron. All members who are able to stay around for the presentations are always entertained by Charlie’s stories and golf experiences. We are delighted that Charlie has agreed to continue as Patron in 2012.

In 2012 we will asking you to “invite a friend “to a special HIO day. This friend however must be eligible to join our club. The date for this event will be decided by our new committee and announced at our next game at Gailes on 27th November 2011.

Hole-in-One Newsletter – April 2011

Greetings everyone,

Here we are almost half way through another year. Welcome to everyone and in particular our new members. As we are all aware the weather has played havoc with the golfing activities of many of our members in the first few months of this year, both in S.E. and North Queensland. Despite the difficulties experienced in this period we look forward to the golfing gods smiling upon us for the rest of the year.

We still have four events to participate in this year namely Woodford on the 5th June (we welcome Woodford back into our fold and look forward to playing this course on a regular basis), Caboolture on the 7th August (we play this course each year and each year I eagerly look forward to the game), Virginia on the 25th September (wonderful course, wonderful warm hospitality – never fails) and last but not least our Christmas celebrations and breakup on 27th November at Gailes (still one of my favourite courses in all of Brisbane).

I need to point out that in 2009 your committee conducted only four (4) events, in 2010 we increased these events to five (5) and by special member request at the 2010 AGM we increased the number of games this year to six (6). Whether it be because of the weather or just members spreading their participation over a greater number of games, we and the participating golf clubs are being let down. For example, at Virginia (despite the weather being fine) we had 56 members nominate but only 44 attend, at Gailes (initially wet but for those that stayed around we experienced a fine day and an excellent day of golf) we struggled to get 36 players!

Our problem is that Golf Clubs will not give us the spaces and the tee off times we want if we let them down with numbers so please try to attend as many days as possible. If we can’t improve numbers the committee will have no option but to cut the numbers of events back next year and no one wants that to happen. Once upon a time we averaged 85 players a game so please let’s get back to the way we were. Charlie Earp our Patron is always there to entertain us and pass on his knowledge and pearls of wisdom so let’s be there to hear what the great man has to say.

Our playing fees are only $25 and include a meal voucher. Its great value and you’ll have a great time. I guarantee it.
